Most glass used for architectural purposes is made by melting silica sand, soda ash, limestone, dolomite, and sodium sulfate to an extremely high temperature and then floating it on molten tin. Then the glass passes through a furnace to control the process of cooling. After the glass is cool and is a flat solid material it is known as annealed glass.
After the annealed glass is polished and cut, it can be passed through an oven for tempering which makes it stronger and safer. Tempered glass can be used in any setting where there is a risk of someone falling through the glass or greater glass strength is needed for safety.
